In a group, you need to create a skit that teaches what the role of plants are in our environment. You also need to teach what would happen if we had no plants in our environment.
1) Think of a location (ex. Forest, Tundra, Barren Landscape, Agricultural Area, Yukon, Jungle, Glendale Forest, Cameron's backyard, Vancouver Island, Mississipi, the moon, San Diego etc.)
2) Think of a problem, adventure, story (funny, sad, scary, environmental) that will teach us something about the USE OF PLANTS, THE NEEDS OF PLANTS AND ROLE OF PLANTS IN THE ENVIRONMENT. You will need to research particular plants to see what their main role is in their ecosystem (do they prevent erosion, to they provide lots of oxygen, do they produce for for certain animals, do they reduce pollution well, do they clean and filter water, what is their role in the food web, does it provide shelter from weather, does plant enjoy sun or shade, what is the role of photosynthesis, etc)
Examples:
- Emma's mom wants a vegebtable garden - Emma and friends research plants (tell audience what plants you are using) that grow well in Alberta and make her a garden (plants can be used for food)
- A city in the Yukon wants to grow coconut trees - they tried but for some reason the trees don't thrive (Plants have specific needs) - instead they decided to plant along a river because it helped to prevent erosion
- A village wants to cut down the jungle to grow crops (plants provide a habitat for many species, but plants are also needed for food)
- While on vacation on Vancouver Island, Julianne gets a headache. Her mom gives her _ which is a natural herbal remedy and makes her feel better. This plant is also used in nature as shelter for _bird and animal.
- Braden grows up and gets a job at NASA and goes to visit the moon. He needs a space suit and oxygen tank because there are no plants to make oxgen. Braden creates a greenhouse dome on the moon and plants __ for particular uses.
- Shyanne works in an office in mississipi,to freshen the air and remove toxins she buys spider plants for her office desk.
- Emily loves animals and grows up to be a vet at the San Diego zoo. She feeds (this animal) (these plants because they are a nutritious part of their diet) like koalas eat es that is toxic to humans.
4) Make up a Learning Sheet that students can fill in as they watch your skit (learning sheet should have 5 key questions about plants - if you have additional questions for fun they don't have to be about plants)
5) Practice your skit and agree on roles (you can have a narrator or not, actors, props, etc)
6) Together we are going to decide on how your skit will be evaluated before you begin (create self eval, peer eval, teacher eval sheets)
